Curl TV

Well this is interesting but I'd rather get it on my local cable system.

I had expected I would be able to see something interesting for free but I guess it will take them longer getting to that.

If any reader out there subscribes we would love to have reviews in the comments.

Even worse, their live scores did not seem very live.

UPDATE: (from EclectEcon) For discussions of their coverage of the 2006 Worlds, see here.

Yeah right!

This is a great idea and everybody who takes part in this should be commended for their great job. It's great to know that there is curling to watch when there is none on tv. BRAVO

P.S. Go Jeff Stoughton and Manitoba!!!

Hi:

I am on some parental leave with my newborn boy and an avid curler and fan. I purchased the membership to Curl TV so that I could watch the Mens worlds and have to say that I am very happy with the coverage.

There is not whole lot of chatter from the announcers which I like. Peter Ackman does a pretty good job of setting up each shot. And the analyst (I forget his name) is also brief and to the point. The players are mic'd up so we get to hear their discussions. There is also an effort to provide some level updates of action on other sheets with the limited number of camera angles that the have.

Which brings up the downsides. The picture is a little grainy (it is broadcast at 247k bits/sec) which leaves a picture like watching regular TV with rabbit ears, the sound however is on par wth regular cable.

I have shaw cable and the connection was pretty consistant and it only dropped off 3 times during the whole week and quickly reconnected. The only other drawback is the price, I purchased a 1 month subscription for $28 and because I was able to see most of the action I am happy with the price (it would be on par with Pay per view) if that was available.
