Where will YOU watch the 2008 Men's World Curling Championship?

We were discussing this last night at the local curling club. It turns out you won't be watching much of the 2008 Men's world curling championship on CBC-TV, who has the exclusive telecasting contract in Canada. Why not?
  • Several of the games will be shown on "Bold", formerly known as "Country Canada", CBC's alternate channel for things they don't think are important enough to show on the main CBC network channel. To get Bold (what a pretentious, wannabe name), one must have a digital box or satellite dish in our area.
  • But many of the games involving Canada will be available only via webcast at CBC.ca. So if you don't have high-speed internet, you're s.o.l. And even if you do have access to these games, the betting at our club was that they'll be done on the cheap via CurlTV. Not that I want to knock CurlTV; rather, I'd expect more from CBC.

Update: We are unable to get anything from the CBC.ca website; thanks, again CBC! If you are able to get even the draws involving Canada, and you live in Canada, please post a comment explaining how!

Update #2: Finally, it's there. But why the screwups???

  • and heaven forbid you might want to watch a game between two other teams, not including Canada. We have found no way for you to do so if you live in Canada.

So why is CBC doing this to us?

  • Are they punishing Canadian viewers because they lost the bid to cover curling in the future?
  • Are they embroiled in some battle with CTV to see who can control CurlTV?
  • Are they just plain idiots?
  • And after several years of repeated travesties, why and how does CBC still obtain any rights to curling telecasts at all? Who made these contracts with CBC without specifying more carefully what would be expected of CBC? And why would they make such contracts?

Or are there some rational explanations for CBC's continued botching of the telecasting of curling?

I agree with choice #3 Stupidity". CBC has done more harm to curling and upset the curling fan in Canada than anyone can possibly imagine. Thank God this is their last kick to World and Canadian curling forever. (I hope WCA and CCA have learned their lesson.) Shirl

Here we sit, broken hearted, believed CBC's annouced broadcast of Sunday noon draw (PDT) but got a rerun of Wpg Comedy Fest instead. What a crock! Will they screw up the promised Tuesday evening one as well?

Enjoyed Kevin's game on Saturday and hearing about expanded broadcast of two additional games. Guess they were only funnin with us! Fun for them, lousy for us.

Ratings considered, CBC would do well to broadcast the entire Ford schedule...guess ratings don't matter a whit when they just tax the h... out of us and claim to do us a service. What are the mavens at CBC thinking???

I agree with the #3 reason as well. We are absolutely totally disappointed with the men's coverage. We checked BOLD's schedule for the rest of the week and the only scheduled coverage for the whole week is Friday night.

Really great service for such a popular sport in Canada. The CBC is a waste of our tax dollars and should be done away with. It reminds us of the cutting of Rita MacNeil’s show which was among the most popular on CBC TV at the time. The stupid reason they gave was that they wanted Rita to go out on a HIGH note!! Can you believe such an ignorant excuse.

Tells you what kind of warped minds are employed by the CBC and why we won’t see much of this very enjoyable sport during the men’s worlds.

CBC should be ashamed of themselves. TSN & CTV did a great job with the Women's Worlds, The Brier and the Scottie. Too bad CBC can't think and see what their audience (past tense most likely) wants and expects. Poor show once again. Thank goodness they've been given the boot from doing the curling broadcasts in the future.

I have been able to get the men's curling on both Bold and CBC.ca, your not missing anything! I have no idea whom the announcer is, but he sucks! Maybe that's why he never introduces himself.
All I did was to log onto CBC.ca and click on sports, then curling. You wont' get a big picture, but you'll get it.
I am extremely pissed that they're not even broadcasting the game between Norway and China on the web. I am so pissed off, I will never watch CBC again (not that I watch it much now anyhow) I really wish TSN would have gotten it.
Way to go WCA & CCA). Doubt we'll spend any money now going to any of these events you sponsor, and we're big curlers, just to prove out point.
